A Message from the Executive Director – Oct 26, 2018

Greetings Caregivers, Supporters, and Colleagues,

On October 13, over 120 foster and adoptive parents and professional staff from around the state gathered at the 2018 NHFAPA Conference. We came to support one another, to network, and to learn about effective advocacy.

Let’s thank Larry Pilla, Sheryl Tedford, and the team at the Child Welfare Education Partnership at Granite State College for their efforts to assemble a powerful group of speakers and presenters. The topic of advocacy has created much discussion and focus as foster and adoptive parents seek effective ways to meet the needs of their families and the children in their care.

NHFAPA is thrilled to announce the continued support of WMUR and Wendy’s Restaurants. During the month of June, Wendy’s employees sold coupon books to thousands of their customers in New Hampshire, which in turn netted more than $37,000 for our Association!

In addition, Mr. Larry Wiley of Wiley Management/Wendy’s gifted $10,000 in personal funds!

Donations also came from Mattress Firm, The Archibald Foundation, and The Conduent Foundation, as well as other community partners and stakeholders.

This year’s golf tournament raised more than $8,000 for children and youth to attend camp programs!

Much to the group’s excitement, NHFAPA was able to award over $8,000 in various scholarships for children and youth to participate in normalcy activities such as music lessons, sports, class trips, and special attire for youth to attend their proms.

We are incredibly thankful for the dedication of the numerous volunteers, community members, and NHFAPA stakeholders. Our board members contribute many hours each month attending meetings, volunteering on committees, and conducting other tasks associated with running a nonprofit organization.

We are truly grateful for the continued efforts and commitment of Deborah Bradley (interim President), Denise Christiansen (Treasurer), and Larry Pilla, JD Bartkovich, Airial Sillanpaa, and Melinda Feola-Mahar (members-at-large). The job of a board member is not always an easy one, and we recognize the challenges this level of volunteerism presents at times to those willing to serve.

That said, we are searching for additional board members to join this dedicated group of individuals. We are seeking expertise in fundraising, outreach, public relations, and nonprofit management, among other skills. If you have an interest in learning more about this unique opportunity, please speak with one of NHFAPA’s board members or send me an email at bobbie_gaudette@yahoo.com.

-Check your email and watch the NHFAPA Information Page on Facebook (our only official page) for upcoming focus group to be held around the state.

-On November 1st at 1:00 pm, join the Legislative Committee on Foster Care meets in room 207 of the Legislative Office Building in Concord. This committee is seeking testimony on issues relating to foster care in New Hampshire.

Thank you for all you do for our kids,

Bobbie Gaudette, NHFAPA Executive Director
