How do I become a member of NH FAPA?

All licensed foster and adoptive parents are members of NH FAPA. NH FAPA also invites relative caregivers, and parents who have fostered or adopted at any point to become involved in NH FAPA. All foster and adoptive parents, as well as any interested community members are welcome to attend the General NH FAPA meetings, held quarterly. Contact Jen Guillemette, jenguill@comcast.net, for information on the next meeting!

How do I find out more information about becoming a licensed foster or adoptive parent?

If you would like to learn more about becoming a foster parent, contact the New Hampshire Division of Child, Youth, and Families at:603-271-4711 or 800-852-3345 ext 4711 or contact through the website at http://www.dhhs.state.nh.us/DHHS/FCADOPTION/CONTACT+INFO/default.htm

I am a single parent. Can I become a foster parent?

Absolutely! Any adult who is interested in becoming a foster parent should contact NH DCYF. When licensing foster parents, NH DCYF works to ensure that potential foster families can work with birth families, can provide for a child, can advocate for the best interest of the child in care, and is a healthy, positive and loving family. NH DCYF does not discriminate based on race, religion, gender, family structure, or sexual orientation. Foster parents come from a variety of backgrounds!

How long does it take to become a licensed foster parent?

DCYF supports you throughout the licensing process. Typically, once you begin completing paperwork, the process takes 45-90 days- depending on how quickly you can arrange for fire and other inspections, complete your homestudy and other paperwork and complete your FACES coursework.

Through the kindness and generosity of local retailers, businesses and individuals, NH FAPA receives both cash and in-kind donations ranging from large grants to unique donations for our youth in care and our foster and adoptive families.

NH Foster and Adoptive Parent Association is a 501c3 non-profit organization. All donors will receive a tax deductible receipt for their contribution to the extent allowable by law. This makes giving to NH FAPA, easy and tax beneficial!
