How do I become a member of NH FAPA?
All licensed foster and adoptive parents are members of NH FAPA. NH FAPA also invites relative caregivers, and parents who have fostered or adopted at any point to become involved in NH FAPA. All foster and adoptive parents, as well as any interested community members are welcome to attend the General NH FAPA meetings, held quarterly. I am a single parent. Can I become a foster parent?
Absolutely! Any adult who is interested in becoming a foster parent should contact NH DCYF. When licensing foster parents, NH DCYF works to ensure that potential foster families can work with birth families, can provide for a child, can advocate for the best interest of the child in care, and is a healthy, positive and loving family. NH DCYF does not discriminate based on race, religion, gender, family structure, or sexual orientation. Foster parents come from a variety of backgrounds!
How long does it take to become a licensed foster parent?
DCYF supports you throughout the licensing process. Typically, once you begin completing paperwork, the process takes 45-90 days- depending on how quickly you can arrange for fire and other inspections, complete your homestudy and other paperwork and complete your FACES coursework.
